My friends, there's a line from the movie JFK that I can't stop thinking about. Jim Garrison — the character Kevin Costner plays — tells a jury: "Theoretical physics can also prove that an elephant can hang off a cliff with its tail tied to a daisy! But use your eyes, your common sense." I jotted it down this morning because it's the perfect description of how so much of this fight actually works. Somebody with credentials, funding, and a position of influence tells you something that defies what you can plainly see, and demands that you trust their credentials over your own eyes.

That's exactly what's happening with the SAVE America Act. I walked through the details yesterday, so I won't repeat it all here — but the short version of what this bill does is three things:

None of that is radical. And I imagine many people already assumed all three were happening.

Then there's the story about new documents released by Senators Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson show that Special Counsel Jack Smith's "Arctic Frost" team secretly obtained the actual content of text messages belonging to 44 members of Congress, including senators who were investigating him. Smith testified under oath that his team only received "toll records" — timestamps and recipients, nothing more. The documents released this week say otherwise.

An executive-branch prosecutor allegedly spied on the very legislative branch he's supposed to answer to. And then he told that same branch under oath that he didn't. Grassley calls it worse than Watergate. I’d say it’s unbelievable, but unfortunately it isn’t. Our republic is unraveling before our very eyes — and it’s not because of Trump. In fact, he’s the one who has exposed the shenanigans happening inside the belly of the beast.

Trump says Thursday's announcement on 2020 election interference is "really, really big news." We'll be watching, and we'll break it down together the moment it drops.

Winning this fight doesn't start with outrage, and it doesn't end there either. It starts with cleaning up the system, insisting on accountability regardless of party, so Americans begin to regain hope that this nation can be saved. That's not bitter. That's just common sense, my friends, and I wish more people were willing to use it.

It's the executive branch surveilling the legislative branch it answers to — the exact kind of concentration of unchecked power the Founders built the whole system of checks and balances to prevent. It doesn't matter whose administration ends up doing it next; the principle has to hold regardless of who's in power, or it isn't a principle at all.

For the record, it was the Biden administration that violated this principle. But ask the average man on the street who poses the threat to our “democracy,” and he’ll blindly repeat the name he’s been told to fear for a decade: Donald Trump.

The SAVE America Act is a smaller-scale version of the same question: can voters actually trust the system that's supposed to answer to them? Requiring proof of identity to register and vote isn't about making participation harder. It's about making sure participation means what everyone already assumed it meant: secure elections and faith in the published results.

The fix in both cases is the same: transparency, accountability, and a system nobody has to simply take on faith — because they can see for themselves that it works. That's not cynicism about government. It’s the reality of what restoring this constitutional republic actually looks like.
