Krish Fills In For A Second Day In My Absence
Krish Dhanam is filling in again today while I'm out with my family.
Yesterday he worked through what he called the left's lariat of lunacy. Today he picks up a different image and stays with it the whole hour: the circus tent.
He starts with a phrase both Democrats and Republicans like to use — big tent. He takes it back to Isaiah 54, where enlarging the tent means lengthening the cords and strengthening the stakes, and asks whether that's what either party is actually doing today.
Then he moves to the three rings. The center ring is where the headliners work — the leadership, the members who have been in Washington forty years. The outer rings are where the sideshow acts are.
His argument is that the outer rings stopped being a sideshow. He traces how the Democratic Socialists went from the periphery to the ballot, and he thinks plain apathy did as much of that work as ideology did. And I tend to agree.
He also gets into what he saw in the former Soviet bloc after the Iron Curtain came down — the Kremlin, Ceaușescu's house in Romania, and who exactly was living well under a system that promised nobody would.

Refreshing the Batteries
We're refreshing our batteries this week. I'm candidly not very good at doing that, but it's something I'm trying to focus on more as I have learned just how important it is to do.
We're spending time with some family, disconnecting and spending a little time appreciating nature. In fact, we even got a little fishing in today!
