My friends, here's a question that used to be so obvious nobody needed to answer it: what is a woman? This week I had an exchange online with a self-described “doctor" who told me — and I'm quoting her directly — that "the only people that can't define a woman are those asking the question." Then she went on to define it herself as someone who "lives and identifies as female." Read that twice. She spent a whole paragraph telling me the question was disingenuous, then answered it with the very circular definition that makes the question necessary in the first place.

I want to be fair here. I don't think everyone who disagrees with me on this is dishonest or hateful. But I do think they’d have to be crazy or confused to go along with this. Yet the “credentialed” people among us have talked themselves into a definition that can't survive reality or even a dictionary from before this all got politically inconvenient.

In 1828, Noah Webster defined a woman as simply "the female of the human race grown to adult years." Straightforward. True. No need to be changed.

And if that wasn’t good enough, he defined a female as “one of that sex which conceives and brings forth young.”

This isn't just an argument over words, it’s a fight over reality itself. And it's playing out in real time in the WNBA, where Sophie Cunningham has said plainly that women's sports should be for women. Just 5 minutes ago, that wasn’t even remotely controversial. But it is today.

Meanwhile, a 6-foot-3 biological male named Julie Tétart, currently dominating a French women's league, says he'd play in the WNBA if a team called him. But nobody's made that call yet. And I think they should call him. Offer him a spot in the WNBA. Show us how inclusive you are. Put your roster where your mouth is. And if you don’t, WNBA, we’d have to call you “transphobic.” (Isn’t that how this game is played?)

Truth doesn't require anyone’s approval to be true. Calling someone a woman doesn't make him one, any more than calling a rock a river makes it flow.

God made us male and female. That's not bigotry, that's biology. And it's older than any dictionary or woke movement. The kindest thing any of us can do for people caught up in this confusion is refuse to pretend that this nonsense is true. That's not cruelty. That's love in action — and it can free confused people from incalculable harm and pain.

We can disagree about plenty of things and still be neighbors. But some things — biology, truth, the meaning of words — aren't up for a vote. I'd rather lose an argument with someone who's honest about reality than win one built on a definition that dissolves the moment you touch it.

And I wish more people felt the same.

One of the quieter fronts in this Cold Civil War is fought over what gets to use the label of "science."

Real science — systematic, repeatable, willing to be proven wrong — has earned its credibility the hard way. What played out online this week isn't that.

A woman who introduced herself to me as a “doctor” tried to settle the definition of "woman" by citing the AMA, the WHO, and a handful of major medical associations, as if an institution's letterhead can settle a question of plain biology.

That's not science — that's an argument from authority. And it's worth noticing how often that move shows up lately. Ask someone to define a woman, and you get a credentialed shrug.

Even a sitting Supreme Court justice, Ketanji Brown-Jackson, during her own Senate confirmation hearing, said she couldn’t answer the question because "I'm not a biologist."

Meanwhile, Noah Webster managed to define it in one sentence back in the 1828, no biology degree required.

The danger was never science itself — it's ideology borrowing science's coat to walk around unquestioned.

When a claim can't survive a basic dictionary and needs a woke task force to defend it, you’ve got your answer.

Truth doesn't need an institution's permission to still be true, my friends — and neither do you, when you say plainly what you can plainly see.
