The New York Times Wrote a Story Explaining Why It Actually Did a Little Journalism

If you remember, last week we talked about an article in the New York Times about Mary Peltola's campaign and its alleged involvement in recruiting people named Dan Sullivan to run for Senate in Alaska.

The idea was to confuse voters into voting for the wrong Dan Sullivan.

How very pro-Democratic of them.

The Times reported that Peltola campaign aides and national Democratic operatives discussed the plan, and that the paper had dozens of text messages. That story ran on Wednesday, less than a week from from Election Day.

We told you, in the words of Rush Limbaugh, that The New York Times had engaged in a random act of journalism.

And I confessed my shock that they would actually do an honest piece of journalism that negatively impacted Democrats this close to an election.

Maybe an editor wasn't thinking clearly that day. Maybe somebody was so busy attending Democrat fundraisers, and so excited that Democrats may just win the House and the Senate, that the guard came down for a moment. Who knows?

But Democrat readers of the Times were so shocked after reading the story that the Times felt it needed to write another story explaining why it covered the story to begin with.

I kid you not.

On Saturday the paper ran a piece walking its own readers through their decision. It quotes the lead reporter, Kellen Browning, and Amy Gardner, a deputy editor on the politics desk.

Gardner said this: “Publishing what we knew, and letting readers decide how they felt about it all, was the only ethical option.”

So the Times has to explain to its own readers why it wrote a piece of real journalism, because that piece may hurt Democrats on the eve of an important midterm election.

Yet people will still insist the New York Times is a place where real journalism is presented.

If that were the case, my friends, why would they feel the need to explain to their readers why they reported on something both newsworthy and sourced, hmm?

Democrat Haley Stevens Endorsed Republican Mike Rogers for Senate in Michigan

Abdul El-Sayed is too radical even for rank-and-file Democrats.

Kudos to Democrat Representative Haley Stevens for coming out over the weekend to endorse Mike Rogers for U.S. Senate in Michigan.

On Sunday, Stevens sat beside Rogers at a service at Perfecting Church in Detroit and then later announced her endorsement of Rogers in a video on social media — just 2 days before Election Day.

Stevens ran against El-Sayed in the Democratic primary in August and narrowly lost, so perhaps she knows about as well as anyone just how dangerous he really is.

At first, she had said she'd vote for him. Then she called on him to condemn an outside group's ad she called antisemitic, and she says he closed his campaign by telling her she wasn't welcome. (El-Sayed says his campaign didn't make the ad and he doesn't agree with it.)

Stevens says she's still a proud Democrat. But in her words, when you see us standing with Hasan Piker, and repeated hate, it's not acceptable.

El-Sayed openly campaigned with Piker, a Radical Leftist streamer, including a rally at Michigan State in April.

In an age where Republican men are wimpy and Democrat men have lost their minds and are confused about their gender, it's encouraging to see there are still people like Stevens.

As you know, I was raised in a Democrat home. And while it is true that the Blue Dog Democrat of the 1980s has virtually gone extinct, it appears that there are at least some who see the threat of elected officials like El-Sayed in the Democrat Party.

He's anti-Semitic and anti-Israel.

He equates Hamas with the Israeli government.

He has more bad things to say about Donald Trump than Hasan Piker.

And while many Democrats are poised to close their eyes, walk into the voting booth, and pull the lever for El-Sayed, hopefully enough of them will pay attention to what Stevens says.

There are still reasonable people out there who are Democrats. Sure, there aren't many, and there are even fewer in elected positions like Stevens, but they are out there my friends. They may be an endangered species, but if you look hard enough, you’ll find one.

I want to commend Stevens for her courage because we absolutely know she will have a political price to pay to the Radical Leftist Democrats in power today.

It's not too late for Democrats in Michigan to heed the wise words of Stevens and vote Mike Rogers for U.S. Senate.

America is watching closely and hopes you make the right decision.

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

Today's Toddcast

Election Day is tomorrow, and I spent today on the voting bloc that could decide it: Christians who don't show up. We discuss on the Toddcast.

I also get into the Barna numbers on how many people of faith sit an election out, three reasons they give for it, why I say this nation was built on biblical principles, and the school board race I won by about thirty votes over 25 years ago.

Here's a clip from today's Toddcast:

Stack of Stuff

George Barna — the projection I cited on air: 104 million people of faith sitting out, 41 million of them born-again, 32 million regular churchgoers, and the seven reasons non-voters gave, with the percentage for each.

Pew Research Center — the religious makeup of each candidate's 2024 voters: 79% of Trump's voters identified as Christian and 29% as white evangelical, against 52% of Harris's voters and 39% religiously unaffiliated.

Pew Research Center — how each religious group actually voted in 2024, including the 81% of white evangelical Protestants who went for Trump, and the split between frequent and less frequent church attenders.

Ballotpedia — the Texas U.S. Senate ballot I mentioned: James Talarico, Ken Paxton and five other candidates.

Ballotpedia — the Michigan U.S. Senate ballot: Abdul El-Sayed against Mike Rogers, plus the primary numbers that got El-Sayed there.

WKAR — El-Sayed's April 7 campaign rally with Hasan Piker and Rep. Summer Lee at Michigan State.
