The WNBA Will Play Game 6 of Its Finals at 12:30 on a Thursday Afternoon

The WNBA has proven, once again, that it is an absolute joke of a league.

How do you not plan for a scenario like this?

The Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream are in the WNBA Finals. The Valkyries won Game 5 last night and lead the series 3-2. And Game 6 is set to be an absolute disaster.

Here's what happened. The Atlanta Hawks have an NBA game Thursday evening at State Farm Arena — the same day Game 6 is scheduled to be played. Starting in 2027, the Dream will share that arena with the Atlanta Hawks. But right now, the Dream’s home arena is the Gateway Center in College Park, Georgia.

And it only seats 3,500 fans.

Under normal circumstances, the Hawks would almost certainly allow the Dream to use the arena. But the Hawks play home games on back-to-back nights, at 7:00 pm on Wednesday and 8:00 pm on Thursday, so there's no open evening for the Dream on Thursday. (The Hawks even pushed their Thursday tip back an hour, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, to make room for the afternoon game.)

So the WNBA had to decide. Play Game 6 in the larger Hawks arena earlier in the day, at 12:30 pm. Or play it in the evening, when games are normally played so people can watch on TV across the various time zones. But if they chose the latter, they would have had to play it in the Dream's smaller home arena.

The league chose the former. That means Game 6 of the WNBA Finals is going to be played over lunch on a random Thursday. (If you're a Valkyries fan in California, that's 9:30 in the morning, by the way.)

What on earth is going on with the WNBA?

The players think they deserve to be paid what the men get paid, but the evidence suggests that the league has lost more than a quarter of a billion dollars since its inception. In fact, we don't know for certain that the league has ever technically made a profit, though the players' union said revenue targets were hit in 2025, triggering revenue sharing for players. But hitting revenue targets does not necessarily mean the league made a profit.

It’s more than fair to say that the league does not make money and is subsidized by the men of the NBA. So much for strong, independent women in the WNBA, I guess. And on top of that, they use arenas that have been funded by the NBA — and oftentimes, your tax dollars.

In spite of all of this, WNBA players wore shirts last season saying, "Pay us what you owe us." They've walked off the floor during the National Anthem. They miss wide-open layups like it's a contest.

They try to hurt Caitlin Clark and have all sorts of petty jealousies toward her.

They're offended by Sophie Cunningham opposing trans women in the sport. Meanwhile, the WNBA says men can't play in the league because it's exclusively for women — yet it can't (or won't) tell us what a woman is. It only knows Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White aren't women — but it can't tell us why they aren't, because it refuses to provide objective definitions.

When a society lies to itself about truth, this sort of garbage naturally follows.

It’s a disaster. A joke. A shame.

And the league deserves 100% of this criticism.

I'm very sorry for the handful of respectable women in the league who aren't part of the problem.

But the league is absolutely horrible. And if I’m being candidly blunt, I hope it fails.

Who knows? Perhaps the women who respect truth and just want to play basketball instead of being social justice warriors can start their own league and escape the dumpster fire that is today’s WNBA.

Gavin Newsom on Undercover Video: The DSA Is "Going to Be a Mainstream Democratic Movement"

Gavin Newsom says the Democratic Socialists of America are becoming the mainstream Democrat movement.

He said it earlier this month while campaigning in New Hampshire. He didn't know the person he was talking to was an undercover Townhall journalist with a camera rolling.

When a young voter told him they wanted more democratic socialist policies, Newsom said the DSA, and "the desire and demand for bold change," is "very much going to be dominant."

Then he added: "That's going to be a mainstream Democratic movement. Absolutely. No question about that."

This is the governor of the People’s Republic of California, and a man many expect to run for president in 2028.

So what does this mean for rank-and-file Democrats? It means the people running their party are telling them, in no uncertain terms, the party is going to move even further to the left.

Reasonable Democrats must wake up and smell the coffee.

This is not political anymore.

This is a clash of worldviews.

And it is a bareknuckle fight between those who want to keep America “America” and those who want to remake her into something she was never intended to be.

Quote of the Day

❝

The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence.

There are two Dan Sullivans on Alaska's Senate ballot, and the Justice Department has sued over it. We discuss on the Toddcast.

I also get into the part of Article I, Section 4 that CNN didn't highlight for its viewers, why DC should never become a state, the hanging chads of 2000, and the WNBA's Game 6 mess.

Here's a clip from today's Toddcast:

Behind the Scenes: Why I Started This Show

I was raised in flyover country in a union Democrat home.

While I wasn't raised in a Christian home, I was raised by parents who had a reverence for the Bible. So my brother and I were raised with traditional biblical values in a middle class, Midwestern home.

In high school, I played football and basketball — and I ran track. Sports were really important to me then. They still are, though I have to confess I can't stand what has become of professional sports and the sports culture we live in today. But that's another discussion for another day.

In 1993, my school had just hired a new football coach named Tom Blanck. Coach Blanck was (and still is) a committed follower of Jesus — and everyone who knows him knows that.

He invited those of us playing high school football to attend a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) football camp in Marshall, Indiana.

While I had attended church and vacation Bible school on occasion as a kid, I had never heard and understood the Gospel until that trip.

Early that week at camp, I made a decision to follow Jesus. And it radically changed my life for the better.

Over time, that decision shaped everything about me — including the direction I felt I was called professionally.

Through circumstances and convictions, I came to believe God wanted me to engage our culture through radio and podcast, helping others hear and receive truth.

So on August 10, 2015, I took the gifts God has so graciously given me and started a podcast. It was originally called The Antidote to Liberalism, but today you know it as the ever-so-creatively named Todd Huff Show (or the Toddcast, as I like to call it).

Just about a year later, on October 3, 2016, we launched our show on radio.

Today, our show airs on more than two dozen terrestrial and online stations — and clips from our show have been viewed over 10 million times on Facebook and Instagram this year. And our podcast is in the top 3% of all podcasts in the world.

Thank you for being a part of what we feel compelled to do. The stakes are high — and I candidly don't know how this story ends. But we'll keep doing this as long as God keeps the door open. And I hope to continue to see you here alongside us.

To God be the glory.
