Gary Varvel Has the Mic Today
Gary Varvel is filling in today while I'm out with my family.
Gary has been drawing editorial cartoons for a long time. He's syndicated with Creators Syndicate, and if you've lived in Indiana, you may have seen his work for years.
He does something on the show that shouldn't work on radio and does anyway: he walks you through his recent cartoons out loud. Iran as the Black Knight from Monty Python. The Democratic Socialists as a snake wrapped around the donkey. Fauci and his diary.
From there he gets into the WNBA fight over what a woman is, and a new abortion law out of Massachusetts.
In the second segment he moves to Colorado, where a 29-year-old democratic socialist named Melat Kiros unseated Diana DeGette in the Denver primary. He reads a line from her about a shift in the global order — one that means getting more immigrants into office.
He answers her with Deuteronomy. Chapter 17, verse 15: “Do not place a foreigner over you.” Then chapter 28, where foreigners becoming the head and Israel the tail sits among the curses for turning away from God.
From there he asks whether America is living under something similar, and makes the case that the natural-born requirement the Constitution puts on the presidency belongs on other high offices too.
He closes with an extended case from Scripture for standing with Israel — the covenant language in Genesis, Romans 11, and what he's watching in the rise of antisemitism since October 7.
Then a straight word to Christians about the sin of omission. That last stretch is the heart of it for him, and I'll let him make it himself.

Gary makes the case that the natural-born requirement we put on the presidency ought to reach further than that. I want to know where you land.
